Think everything is getting too expensive? Well, you might like the MG4 EV then. The latest model from the Chinese-owned brand is one of the cheapest electric cars you can buy.
Surely, then It’s cheaper even than the other electric offerings from MG – the MG5 and the MG ZS EV – both of which are famously value-focused in their own right.
en, the bargain-basement pricing (in electric car terms, at least) must mean the MG4 has a tiny range between charges, a cramped interior and not much equipment on offer. Actually, no.
The batteries can officially take you up to 218 miles or 281 miles on a full charge, depending on whether you go for the Standard Range or Long Range version. There’s a vast interior that rivals the spacious VW ID 3. Plus, the equipment list includes adaptive cruise control and Vehicle To Load charging, which lets you use your car to power items that run off a three-pin plug socket.
In other words, the MG4 is an electric car that appears to have much more going for it than just a low list price.
So, which rival cars is it up against? Well, it has a similar footprint to the ID 3, the Cupra Born, the ORA Funky Cat and the Renault Megane E-Tech. What’s more, its price tag actually undercuts much smaller rivals, including the Peugeot e-208 and the Renault Zoe.

The line-up will expand in the future, too. An Extended Range model is predicted to offer more than 320 miles from a full charge, and there will even be a performance version with a 0-60mph time of less than four seconds.
